The National Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Office will be hosting the HAB Socioeconomics Workshop in Woods Hole, Massachusetts in June 2020. Information on the conference, accommodations, bus service, directions, and maps is provided below.

 

HAB Socioeconomics Workshop Information

The workshop will take place at the J. Erik Jonsson Conference Center of the National Academy of Sciences in Woods Hole. Shuttle service from the Inn on the Square to the Jonsson Center will be available each day.

Traveling to Woods Hole, MA

Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is about one and a half to two hours driving distance from Woods Hole. The Peter Pan Bus company provides transportation directly from the airport to Woods Hole. See details on the Peter Pan bus given below. Another option is to fly into T.F. Green Airport (PVD) in Providence, Rhode Island, a 90-minute drive from Woods Hole. The Providence bus station is not located at the airport, so renting a car is preferable.

Parking is available free of charge. Please note that reservations received after March 30, 2020 will be on a space-available basis.

Village Map, Bus Information, and Driving Directions

The workshop will be held at the Smith Building located at 86 Water Street in the town of Woods Hole, MA. Click here for a map.

Peter Pan Bus Pick-up at Boston Logan Airport

Bus tickets must be purchased in advance online on peterpanbus.com, on the Peter Pan Bus Mobile App, or by calling Peter Pan Bus at 1-800-343-9999. The bus pick-up location for arriving passengers is outside the baggage area at each terminal, directly outside the main doors.  At Terminals A, B, C and E, walk down to the Lower Level (Arrivals). Follow the orange and white signs for “Scheduled Bus”. Plan to arrive at least 20 minutes before departure time. Please signal to the driver to stop when you see the bus approaching.

The door numbers adjacent to the respective Scheduled Bus Stops are as follows:

  • Terminal A- Exit door A105 and the stop is to your right.
  • Terminal B- Exit door B101 the stop will be just outside of the door.
  • Terminal B- Exit door B115 the stop will be just outside of the door.
  • Terminal C- Exit door C110 will be the farthest door to the right in baggage claim.
  • Terminal E- Exit door E107 the stop will be right outside the door.

Driving Directions from Boston, Massachusetts

Take Route 3 south; follow signs for Cape Cod. Cross the Sagamore Bridge, take the first exit off Route 6, and follow signs for Falmouth and Route 28. Travel south along the Cape Cod Canal until you reach the rotary at the base of the Bourne Bridge. Three quarters of the way around the rotary, bear right and continue south on Route 28.

At the second rotary on Route 28, travel halfway around, bearing right to continue south to the town of Falmouth. Bear right at the gas station onto Woods Hole Road. Travel two and one-half (2.5) miles to WHOI’s Quissett campus (on the left), or four (4) miles to WHOI’s facilities in the village of Woods Hole. Please note that parking is extremely limited in the village, especially in summer.

Driving Directions from Providence, Rhode Island

Take Route 195 east, then Route 25 east; follow signs for Cape Cod. Cross the Bourne Bridge, travel halfway around the rotary on the Cape side of the bridge, and follow signs to Route 28, Falmouth, and Woods Hole. Continue south on Route 28, as directed below.

At the second rotary on Route 28, travel halfway around, bearing right to continue south to the town of Falmouth. Bear right at the gas station onto Woods Hole Road. Travel two and one-half (2.5) miles to WHOI’s Quissett campus (on the left), or four (4) miles to WHOI’s facilities in the village of Woods Hole.
