National Workshop on the Socioeconomic Impacts of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) in the United States<\/h1>\r\nThe National Workshop on the Socioeconomic Impacts of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) in the United States will be a virtual meeting, supported by the U.S. National HAB Office at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and sponsored by NOAA\u2019s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS).\r\nThe goals and products of this multidisciplinary workshop include: (1) Facilitating communication between individuals with expertise in economics and the social sciences, risk assessment, communication and education, and marine and freshwater ecosystem science and management; (2) Developing recommendations for a research agenda to better understand the economic and social effects associated with HABs;\u00a0 (3) Assessing the damages to individuals, firms, and communities due to the hazards arising from HABs and the costs of response; and (4) Identifying best practices for assessing the overall socioeconomic effects of HABs in the United States.\r\n\t\t
