{"id":1681,"date":"2020-09-11T13:11:13","date_gmt":"2020-09-11T17:11:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/beaufortgyre\/?page_id=1681"},"modified":"2025-09-22T07:44:59","modified_gmt":"2025-09-22T11:44:59","slug":"2016-expedition","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/beaufortgyre\/expeditions\/2016-expedition\/","title":{"rendered":"2016 Expedition"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<h1>2016 Expedition<\/h1>\r\n<p>Later in the season than any of our previous Beaufort Gyre cruises, the 2016 BGOS &amp; JOIS cruise on the CCGS Louis St. Laurent began during the third week of September and lasted 4 weeks with Sarah Zimmermann returning as Chief Scientist in the field (with shore support provided by Bill Williams and Andrey Proshutinsky). The 3 BG moorings were again recovered, refurbished and redeployed, and 3 ITPs were deployed: one at an ice station along with a seasonal IMB and an enhanced AOFB, and the other over the side in open water. Hydrographic and geochemical stations were again collected by IOS and collaborators throughout the region which was largely ice free with only thin ice and ridged fragments along the northern section.
