The past few days have been filled with nonstop work, so we are soaking up the calm before our next busy stretch. One of the most common ways for members of the science team to decompress is working on fiber art projects. No matter the time of day, I will almost always find Sarah-Ann Quesnel, Chloe Immonen, Lauren Bannerman-Maxwell, Francesca Loro, Collette Leclerc, or Sarah Zimmermann crafting in the boardroom. They have already completed an impressive number of crochet, knit, and embroidery projects, including a new hat for Michiyo Yamamoto-Kawai after she forgot to bring one! It’s amazing how much progress they have made these past 4 weeks despite our busy schedule!

Outside of crafting, today will be spent processing the remaining samples from the BL-line. Our analysts have made incredible progress over the last 24 hours and are nearly caught up! Meanwhile, the watches have another couple of rosette casts scheduled for today. The night watch completed a cast at STN-A (our last deep one of the cruise!) early this morning. We are currently steaming towards CB29, where the day watch will compete a 2700 m cast this evening. You might notice that this is a slight diversion from our original cruise plan, as we have made the tough decision to cut one of our planned science stations (CB27) due to time constraints. We want to leave plenty of time to complete our remaining science stations, process all samples, and pack before heading home next week!

The most recent sea ice concentration map for the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas (Source: https://data.seaice.uni-bremen.de/databrowser/).

Map showing our current location along the planned 2026 cruise track.

<img decoding="async" src="https://www2.whoi.edu/site/beaufortgyre/wp-content/uploads/sites/108/2026/10/Photo1-11-scaled.jpeg" alt="Members of the science team crafting in the boardroom.
