Between the BL-line and the MK-line (another 24 hours of back-to-back CTD rosette casts), we need all the help we can get. Lucky for us, we have an extra set of helping hands in the form of Monika Loevenmark, our artist-in-residence.<\/p>\n<p>Monika is a Canadian artist who specializes in science communication. She has a special interest in the Arctic given its influence over the global climate and, therefore, jumped at the opportunity to join this year&#8217;s expedition. Over the past few weeks, Monika has documented her experience aboard the Louis in her trusty watercolor sketchbook. From icy landscapes to educational diagrams of our mooring operations, she has painted it all! My personal favorites are her diagrams that seek to capture the scale and interconnectedness of the Arctic climate system.<\/p>\n<p>Monika has been an absolute asset to our science team this year. She asks incredibly thoughtful questions and is always eager to learn about our work. We were lucky to have Monika&#8217;s assistance for our 3 large ice stations, during which she joined the ice transect and coring team. Monika is also always happy to help with sampling the rosette, which is especially appreciated during these busy coastal lines. Monika stayed with the day watch for the entirety of the BL-line and has kindly volunteered her time for the MK-line as well. Today will be spent tackling all 8 rosette casts of the MK-line, so come back tomorrow to see how we fare!
