A general coring location is typically selected according to its geographic position and topography, &#8220;Is the site likely to have been subjected to the processes being studied. Is the topography indicative of a good depositional center allowing for sediment accumulation?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Once a site has been selected the next step prior to coring is to identify the existence of a sedimentary record, including what the nature of that record might be. This is accomplished by employing non-invasive geophysical prospection tools capable of imaging the sub-surface geology.
