The ITP operated on a typical sampling schedule of 2 one-way profiles between 7 and 760 m depth each day.\u00a0 Less than 2 months after deployment, the system completely ceased transmitting, but the surface package with upper 5 m potted tether section was discovered on the north shore of Iceland by the Icelandic Coast Guard in February 2012 and subsequently returned to Woods Hole.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/09\/P1020122_434313.jpg\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/09\/P1020122_434313.jpg\" alt=\"The first ITP to ever be deployed in open water, ITP 36 is surrounded by ice floes in the marginal ice zone over the Arctic Basin north of the Laptev Sea soon after being released from the ship.\" height=\"600\" width=\"800\" title=\"P1020122_434313\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\tThe first ITP to ever be deployed in open water, ITP 36 is surrounded by ice floes in the marginal ice zone over the Arctic Basin north of the Laptev Sea soon after being released from the ship.
