{"id":2296,"date":"2019-10-04T16:54:50","date_gmt":"2019-10-04T20:54:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/?page_id=2296"},"modified":"2022-03-22T16:33:31","modified_gmt":"2022-03-22T20:33:31","slug":"itp48-final-data","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/data\/completed-missions\/itp48\/itp48-final-data\/","title":{"rendered":"ITP48 Final Data"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t<h1>ITP48 Data Description<\/h1>\n\t<p>The ITP profiler was configured to operate on a pattern profiling schedule with different summer and winter schedules.\u00a0 In the summer (between March 1 and October 31), the instrument conducted a 1.5 day repeating pattern of an up profile from 750 to 7 m, followed by 4 one-way (down, up, down, up) profiles between 7 and 200 m, followed by a down profile from 7 to 750 m, all spaced 6 hours apart.\u00a0 In the winter (between November 1 and February 28 or 29), the instrument conducted a 3 day repeating pattern of an up profile from 750 to 7 m, followed 6 hours later by a down profile from 7 to 200 m, followed 24 hours later by an up profile from 200 to 7 m, followed 6 hours later by a down profile from 7 to 750 m, followed by a 36 hour gap before the pattern repeated.\u00a0 The complicate scheme was designed to conserve battery power to extend the lifetime of the instrument, while maximizing the acquisition of the bio-optical data during the summer months. \u00a0In the surface package, the GPS receiver was powered hourly to obtain locations hourly, and buoy temperature and battery voltage status were recorded.<\/p>\n<p>After deployment, the buoy drifted eastward generally about 85\u00b0N latitude over the Mendeleyev Ridge and Alpha Cordillera bottom topography. On November 17, 2012, the profiler began dragging over shallow topography where the Lomonosov Ridge meets the Canadian continental shelf, and 2 days later the last communications with the underwater profiler were received.\u00a0 The surface package continued to send status and GPS locations for over another 21 months while it zigzagged southward, eventually ceasing transmissions just off the northern tip of Ellesmere Island, Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The plots to the right are of the final, calibrated, edited data (as opposed to the raw data presented on the active instrument pages).<\/p>\n<p>See
