{"id":5651,"date":"2024-07-18T10:55:31","date_gmt":"2024-07-18T14:55:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/?page_id=5651"},"modified":"2024-07-18T10:55:31","modified_gmt":"2024-07-18T14:55:31","slug":"itp101-deployment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/data\/completed-missions\/itp101-overview\/itp101-deployment\/","title":{"rendered":"ITP 101 Deployment"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<h1>ITP 101 Deployment<\/h1>\r\n<p>ITP 101 was the first ITP deployed during JOIS 2017, and was paired with a Seasonal Ice Mass Balance Buoy (S-IMB) to form an Ice-Based Observatory (IBO).\u00a0 The helicopter was not used for ice floe reconnaissance due to weather and ice conditions, but instead a floe was selected visually from the bridge and surveyed by lowering 2 scientists over the side of the ship in the manbasket to drill the potential site to determine thickness.\u00a0 After it was determined that the floe was adequate (&gt; 0.75 m thick), the ship&#8217;s gangway was lowered onto the ice for access by personnel and equipment was lowered using the ship&#8217;s crane.\u00a0 The deployment operations took a total of 3 hours to complete.\u00a0 Ice analyses were also performed by others in the science party while the IBO deployment operations took place.<\/p>\r\n<p>More information and photos on the deployment operations are also available at: <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.whoi.edu\/beaufortgyre\/www.whoi.edu\/page.do@pid=160016.html\">https:\/\/archives.whoi.edu\/beaufortgyre\/www.whoi.edu\/page.do@pid=160016.html<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p><strong><em>Recovery operations<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>Nearly a year after deployment, ITP 101 surface package and partial tether were recovered from on the CCGS Louis S.
