Prototype development and construction was funded jointly by the NSF Oceanographic Technology and Interdisciplinary Coordination (OTIC) Program and OPP. Ongoing ITP activities are being supported by the Arctic Sciences Division of OPP.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whoi.edu\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/08\/WHOIblue301logo_n_159654.png\" alt=\"WHOI Logo\" height=\"91\" width=\"98\" title=\"WHOIblue301logo_n_159654\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whoi.edu\/\">Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The engineering design work for the ITP was initiated by the Cecil H. and Ida M. Green Technology Innovation Program (a WHOI-internal program).\u00a0 Supplementary funding to evolve the ITP technology and augment the NSF support of the field program was provided by the James and Ruth P. Clark Arctic research Initiative.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca\/index-eng.html\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/08\/InstituteOceanSciences_Canada_159476.jpeg\" alt=\"IOS Logo\" height=\"41\" width=\"90\" title=\"InstituteOceanSciences_Canada_159476\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca\/science\/facilities-installations\/ios-ism\/index-eng.htm\">Institute of Ocean Sciences, Fisheries and Oceans, Canada<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>ITPs have been deployed annually in the Beaufort Gyre\/Canada Basin sector of the Arctic since 2004 as part of a collaboration with IOS under the Beaufort Gyre Exploration Project.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usace.army.mil\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/08\/corps_Logo_n_159593.png\" alt=\"Corps of Engineers Logo\" height=\"82\" width=\"104\" title=\"corps_Logo_n_159593\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usace.army.mil\/\">US Army Corps of Engineers<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Whenever possible, ITPs are deployed together with CRREL Ice Mass Balance Buoys (IMPs) in order to collect simultaneous information about the evolving state of the polar sea ice and upper ocean.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oc.nps.edu\/~stanton\/fluxbuoy\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/08\/NPSlogo.001_n_159555.png\" alt=\"NPS Logo\" height=\"92\" width=\"130\" title=\"NPSlogo.001_n_159555\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oc.nps.edu\/~stanton\/fluxbuoy\/\">Naval Postgraduate School<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Whenever possible, ITPs are deployed together with NPS Autonomous Ocean Flux Buoys (AOFBs) that sample the water properties and turbulent fluxes in the ocean immediately below the supporting ice floe.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/psc.apl.washington.edu\/northpole\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/08\/PolarScienceCenter_n_159613.png\" alt=\"Polar Science Center Logo\" height=\"97\" width=\"86\" title=\"PolarScienceCenter_n_159613\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/psc.apl.washington.edu\/northpole\/\">Polar Science Center, Applied Physics Laboratory, University of Washington, North Pole Environmental Observatory<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Frequently, an ITP is deployed within a collection of instruments on an ice floe (an Ice-Based Observatory) in conjunction with the PSC NPEO program.\u00a0 These systems typically drift through Fram Strait within one year of deployment.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/08\/AlfredWegenerInsitute_n_159614.png\" alt=\"AWI Logo\" height=\"77\" width=\"130\" title=\"AlfredWegenerInsitute_n_159614\" \/>\n\t<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.awi.de\/en\">Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, Germany<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Colleagues at the AWI have contributed significantly to the ITP array in the Arctic through instrument acquisitions and deployments as well as engaged in scientific collaborations that utilized ITP data.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.damocles-eu.org\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/08\/globe_159615.gif\" alt=\"DAMOCLES Globe\" height=\"131\" width=\"127\" title=\"globe_159615\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.damocles-eu.org\/\">European Union; Developing Arctic Modeling and Observing Capabilities for Long-Term Environmental Studies (DAMOCLES)<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>During the recent International Polar Year (IPY), the DAMOCLES program funded and fielded several ITP systems that contributed significantly to the array during this intensive study period.\u00a0 DAMOCLES investigators have also carried out research based on ITP data.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aari.ru\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/08\/Arctic_AntarcticResearch_Instit_n_159554.png\" alt=\"Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute Logo\" height=\"80\" width=\"114\" title=\"Arctic_AntarcticResearch_Instit_n_159554\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aari.ru\/\">Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, Russia<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Scientists at AARI have contributed to the ITP array through instrument acquisition as well as supporting field deployments.\u00a0 AARI investigators have also carried out research based on ITP data.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sams.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/08\/ScottishMarineInsitute_x_159633.png\" alt=\"Scottish Marine Institute Logo\" height=\"33\" width=\"130\" title=\"ScottishMarineInsitute_x_159633\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sams.ac.uk\/\">Scottish Marine Institute<\/a><\/h3>\nScottish Association for Marine Science, United Kingdom<br \/>\nU.K. scientists working through SAMS have contributed to the ITP array through instrument acquisitions as well as fielding Ice Mass Balance Buoys in association with ITP deployments.\u00a0 U.K.\u00a0 Investigators have also carried out research based on ITP data.\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/uaf-iarc.org\/NABOS\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/08\/nabos_cabos_head_n_159594.png\" alt=\"Nansen and Amundsen Basins Observational System Logo\" height=\"74\" width=\"130\" title=\"nabos_cabos_head_n_159594\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/nabos.iarc.uaf.edu\/\">International Arctic Research Center, Nansen and Amundsen Basins Observational System<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Through a collaboration with NABOS investigators, ITPs have been deployed during NABOS expeditions to the Arctic.\u00a0 NABOS investigators have also carried out research based on ITP data<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/osisaf.met.no\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/itp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2019\/08\/EUMETSAT_logo_241933.jpg\" alt=\"Ocean &amp;
