I have reached my advising capacity, please check back next year. --><\/p>\n<p>We are always looking for bright and motivated graduate students to join our Lab.\u00a0 Our work is very field based and by nature strongly collaborative, please see our ongoing research program under &#8220;Research&#8221;. We are open to work on new topics which the students provide if they fall in my general area of expertise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Polar Ecology<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remote Observing Systems<\/li>\n<li>Instrument development<\/li>\n<li>Polar Robotics<\/li>\n<li>Impact of climate change on the Southern Ocean Ecosystem<\/li>\n<li>Collective behavior in penguin colonies<\/li>\n<li>Machine learning for ecology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Ocean Acoustics<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Marine mammal localization and distribution estimation using passive acoustic monitoring;<\/li>\n<li>Ocean Ambient Noise<\/li>\n<li>Low-cost instrument development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<strong><br \/>\nFellowships and Scholarships<\/strong><br \/>\nGraduate education at WHOI is managed through the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography\/Applied Ocean Science and Engineering, a five-year doctoral degree program. Admission is very competitive, and a great academic record helps a lot. Applying for scholarships and recieving funding before starting graduate school is also helpful.\nPlease read up <a href=\"https:\/\/mit.whoi.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>\u00a0and do not hesitate to contact me or the academics program coordinator.<br \/>\nHere are some websites with information on fellowships for graduate students:\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsfgrfp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NSF Predoctoral Fellowship<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndsegfellowships.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowships<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colorado.edu\/graduateschool\/funding\/national-fellowship-opportunities\">University of Colorado maintains a great list for graduate fellowships<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>For prospective postdocs<\/h3>\n<p>WHOI provides amazing postdoctoral scholarship opportunities. If you&#8217;re interested in postdoc-ing in my group, first step, check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whoi.edu\/page.do?pid=8021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WHOI Postdoctoral Scholar\u00a0<\/a>program or contact me.<\/p>\n<p>Another option is a fellowship from another institution.
