The secure Client Web Portal allows NOSAMS clients to perform three tasks:

  1. Enter required submission data online (prior to sending samples)
  2. Check sample status
  3. Retrieve radiocarbon results

Submitting Sample Guidelines

The user name in the Web Portal must be the email address that will be used for all future correspondence including acknowledgement of receipt, estimate of fees, report of results and invoices.

During the submission process, you will be asked to provide details to help us analyze your samples (such as sample type, size, and prior treatment), as well as information about funding and payment. No sample can be analyzed until all the required information is provided through the Web Portal.

Note: You can log in, start a submission process, and save it for later. When you log back into the Portal you have the option to resume at the point where you left off or start over (if you saved the submission).

Certain entries are required, and leaving them blank will trigger validation procedures that may instruct you to correct or add additional information. Required information will be highlighted in yellow. More details regarding sample submission are available on the following web pages:

Shipping Note:  We recommend that samples requiring chilling be sent by overnight express and that you avoid scheduling delivery for a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday.

Sample processing begins after electronic submission data has been entered through the Web Portal and the samples arrive and are logged in. An email acknowledgement is sent that lists the samples received together with a unique receipt number. The acknowledgement email includes an estimate of fees that can be used to obtain a purchase order. Invoices are issued after samples are analyzed and results reported.

Shipping Containers

Clear glass or plastic vials and jars are preferred. Aluminum foil is not recommended for sample containers unless you first bake it in a muffle furnace for one hour at 525 degrees Celsius (a carbon residue is left on the surface of foil during production). Place well-labelled containers inside individual plastic bags to prevent sample mixing in case of breakage during shipping.

Excess Sample Material

Solid sample material not consumed during analysis is archived at NOSAMS for a two-year period from the date of submission and then discarded. We will return unused portions, if requested and a shipping account is provided. Please provide this information during the submission process.

Excess water samples (DIC and DOC) are archived for one month following analysis and then discarded. If you would like the sample containers returned please provide your request and a shipping account during submission through the Web Portal.

Sample Status and Results

Log into the client portal to view you Sample Status and Results.

  • Sample Status

For viewing your sample status, click on "View Sample Status" on the left side navigation to see progress of you sample through NOSAMS.

  • Sample Results

To obtain your sample results, click on "View Your Results" on the left side navigation.  You should see a list of you sample batches. Click the "select" link next to the batch number you wish to view.  It will download the results into a savable Excel file.  Or if you would all of your results from all batches submitted click on the "Download Results Report" button (to the top and right of the batch list) and it will download all of your results into a savable Excel file.
