The main NOSAMS AMS system was commissioned in 2006, and modified in 2024. It utilizes a modified National Electrostatics Corporation MC-SNICS ion source, a bounced injection system, and a National Electrostatics Corporation 500 kV pelletron accelerator.<\/p>\n<p>Plan view of the AMS system:<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/nosams\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/124\/2025\/06\/CFAMS2.0diagram.png\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/nosams\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/124\/2025\/06\/CFAMS2.0diagram.png\" alt=\"CFAMS2.0diagram\" height=\"929\" width=\"1067\" title=\"CFAMS2.0diagram\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<p><strong id=\"micadas\">NOSAMS MIni CArbon DAting System (MICADAS)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In April of 2022, NOSAMS installed a new AMS system, called the MICADAS (MIni CArbon DAting System) made by Ionplus AG, Switzerland.
