Irminger Sea 9:
\nAnnual Recovery
\nand Deploy Mission<\/h1>\n\t

Month-long Expedition to Refresh Irminger Sea Array<\/h2>\nA team of 15 scientists and engineers will head to the Irminger Sea in late June (June 20 – July 17, 2022) to recover and deploy four moorings and three gliders in this most important but remote ocean region. Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution’s Sheri White is serving as Chief Scientist. The Global Irminger Sea Array is located in the North Atlantic, a region with high wind and large surface waves. It is one of the few places on Earth with deep-water formation that feeds the large-scale thermohaline circulation. Measurements in this area are critical to increase our\u00a0 understanding of changes occurring in the ocean. A team from OSNAP<\/a> (Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Program) will be onboard, as well, to conduct sampling and check OSNAP moorings in the region. Check back regularly for updates.
