They have welcomed us with open arms and treated us\u00a0<em>spectacularly<\/em>\u00a0well throughout our time together. We are deeply grateful for their hard work, generosity, kindness, and outstanding professionalism\u2014not to mention the delicious meals that kept us going! Thank you all for making this such an unforgettable experience.<\/p>\n<p>During our 27 days at sea, we visited all Regional Cabled\u00a0<a class=\"glossaryLink\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/interactiveoceans.washington.edu\/glossary\/array\/\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"cmtt_c21373dca92d7bd09cc6594a61c92bf2\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\">Array<\/a>\u00a0sites resulting in some impressive cruise statistics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All scheduled Regional Cabled Array work was completed and more<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<em>Atlantis<\/em>\u00a0transited over 2600 kilometers<\/li>\n<li><em>Jason\u00a0<\/em>completed 48 dives (J2-1696 \u2013 J2-1744) spanning 2900 m to 80 m water depth<\/li>\n<li>9 CTD\u2019s were conducted reaching depths of 2900 m<\/li>\n<li>348 CTD and 172 Niskin verification samples were processed for the water column sensors<\/li>\n<li>6 Instrumented Shallow\u00a0<a class=\"glossaryLink\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/interactiveoceans.washington.edu\/glossary\/profiler\/\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"cmtt_e3cebbd11a78164f063159a827b83d3e\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\">Profiler<\/a>\u00a0Platforms<\/li>\n<li>4 junction boxes and 2 Benthic Experiment Packages were turned<\/li>\n<li>82 Instruments were turned, 4 instruments were\u00a0<a class=\"glossaryLink\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/interactiveoceans.washington.edu\/glossary\/recovered\/\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"cmtt_1ef44b8b3c1e7126b6c6fc909cf301b2\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\">recovered<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Thousands of overlapping seafloor images to produce a time-series photomosaic of Southern Hydrate Ridge that has change dramatically over this past year<\/li>\n<li>3 PI days (G. Xu and D. Soule) achieved all primary goals<\/li>\n<li>All vent fields were visited over 6\u00a0<em>Jason<\/em>\u00a0dives<\/li>\n<li>Eight MISO temperature loggers were deployed and 7 recovered<\/li>\n<li>Multibeam surveys \u2013 3D acoustic images of hydrothermal plumes were completed at ASHES<\/li>\n<li>Photomosaics were completed at the ASHES and Coquille fields<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thirteen undergraduates from the University of Washington, Queens College, and Western Washington University participated in the at-sea experiential learning program VISIONS. They were outstanding contributors throughout the cruise, standing 4-hour-on\/8-hour-off watches in the ROV control van, assisting with CTD launches, and supporting fluid sampling efforts. Their spirit and joy were evident every step of the way.<\/p>\n<p>As a special gift, we had the rare opportunity to directly witness the breathtaking seascapes and remarkable biological communities flourishing at Axial Seamount and Southern Hydrate Ridge\u2014where life thrives not on sunlight, but on gas-rich fluids rising from the subsurface. Equally awe-inspiring was the abundance and diversity of organisms, of every shape and size, drifting past\u00a0<em>Jason<\/em>\u00a0in the twilight zone and in complete darkness, enduring pressures nearly 300 times greater than those at the surface.<\/p>\n<p>Through their Daily Blogs and astounding artistry, we gained meaningful insights into their experiences and perspectives. The\u00a0<i>Jason<\/i>\u00a0pilots served as incredible mentors to the students and early-career RCA team members, even allowing them to sit in the \u201chot seat\u201d in the\u00a0<i>Jason<\/i><b><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>control van and\u2014under close supervision\u2014fly the vehicle themselves.
