Jacob Steinberg

POSTDOCTORAL INVESTIGATOR

Interests: Mesoscale eddies, Vertical structure, Geostrophic turbulence, Patterns of ocean warming and coastal sea level change

Jake was a postdoc at WHOI in the physical oceanography department. In addition to working in the Piecuch Lab exploring regional patterns of sea level change, he was a member of the Ocean Transport and Eddy Energy Climate Process Team. He completed his PhD at the University of Washington in Seattle in 2020 where his thesis detailed the use of autonomous underwater vehicles (Seagliders and Deepgliders) to study mesoscale eddy structure, evolution, and decay. Jake is interested in the vertical structure of currents and eddies, particularly links between sea surface height, interior motions and warming, and bottom dissipation. Additional interests include data visualization, brewing coffee, running, and swimming.
