During July 2023, Alex Gonzalez and the DIYnamics team co-convened a session at the ninth annual Earth Educators’ Rendezvous (EER) in Pasadena, CA entitled, \u201cTeaching Atmosphere, Ocean, and Climate Dynamics with Interactive Demonstrations.\u201d (https:\/\/serc.carleton.edu\/earth_rendezvous\/2023\/program\/morning_workshops\/w4\/index.html<\/a>). The theme of this year’s workshop was on the atmospheric rivers that slammed California during the winter of 2022\u20132023.<\/p>\n

There were about 35 participants in their session, with a wide variety of participants, including high school teachers, professors from 2- and 4-year colleges, and graduate students. ISU applied for and received funding from NSF for participants’ materials, including 40 Lego-based systems (https:\/\/diynamics.github.io\/pages\/kits.html<\/a>).<\/p>\n

This was the second time the DIYnamics team conducted a workshop at EER and participants spots filled to capacity quickly. A highlight of the workshop was the creation of the DIYnamics Public Forum Slack Channel. Please email Alex or another member of the DIYnamics team to be invited to the channel.<\/p>\n

The team is looking for ways to adapt and expand these teaching workshops. Look out for updates about EER 2024, which will be in Philadelphia, PA.<\/p>\n
