Our efforts focus on promoting communications and data sharing among HAB stakeholders in New England, creating information technology infrastructure and resources for accessing and visualizing diverse HAB data. These communications and tools are designed to help strengthen working relationships among participants, improve information sharing and the coordination of event response efforts, and enhance bloom tracking and data interpretation. Our ultimate goal is to support HAB management capabilities in the region.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/whcohh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2022\/12\/HABhub-graphic.png\" alt=\"WHOI HABhub assimilates HAB data at a regional scale to provide best possible situational awareness regarding the status of HABs and HAB toxins in New England.\" height=\"676\" width=\"712\" title=\"HABhub-graphic\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tWHOI HABhub assimilates HAB data at a regional scale to provide best possible situational awareness regarding the status of HABs and HAB toxins in New England.\n<h2>\n\t\tActivities and Highlights:\n\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/whcohh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2022\/12\/graphics-L_O-Higgins-PB110092-1024x768-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"graphics-L_O-Higgins-PB110092-1024x768\" height=\"150\" width=\"150\" title=\"graphics-L_O-Higgins-PB110092-1024x768\" \/>\n\t<p>We convene the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/northeasthab.whoi.edu\/gom-hab-symposium-2022\/\"><strong>Gulf of Maine HAB Science Symposium<\/strong> <\/a>to engage stakeholders concerned with the safety of marine resources, to provide a forum for communication and information, and to foster improved monitoring and understanding of HAB impacts in the region. This meeting incudes participation by researchers, state and federal managers, and other regional stakeholders.\u00a0 The agenda for the 2022 meeting is available <a href=\"https:\/\/northeasthab.whoi.edu\/gom-hab-symposium-2022\/\">HERE<\/a>; information about the 2023 meeting will be posted when available.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/whcohh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2022\/12\/HABhub-graphic-150x150.png\" alt=\"WHOI HABhub assimilates HAB data at a regional scale to provide best possible situational awareness regarding the status of HABs and HAB toxins in New England.\" height=\"150\" width=\"150\" title=\"HABhub-graphic\" \/>\n\t<p>The CEC developed the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/northeasthab.whoi.edu\/\">Northeast HAB website<\/a><\/strong>, which provides background information about HABs in the Gulf of Maine region, as well as access to bloom monitoring data and commentary, forecasting model products, and data collected by HAB sensors deployed in New England waters.\u00a0 The webpage also offers a number of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/northeasthab.whoi.edu\/for-educators\/\">resources for educators<\/a> <\/strong>interested in bringing HAB science to their classrooms.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/whcohh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2022\/12\/Ne-HAB-site-icon-rev-150x150.png\" alt=\"Ne-HAB-site-icon-rev\" height=\"150\" width=\"150\" title=\"Ne-HAB-site-icon-rev\" \/>\n\t<p>The CEC is working with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/brosnahanlab\/\">co-I M. Brosnahan<\/a><\/strong> and s<a href=\"https:\/\/whoi-it.whoi.edu\/our-services\/applications-development\/\">oftware engineer <strong>E. Andrews<\/strong><\/a> to develop <a href=\"https:\/\/habhub.whoi.edu\/\"><strong>WHOI HABhub,<\/strong><\/a> a data portal that\u00a0aggregates diverse HAB data for creation of an interactive map and time-series plot reports in near real time. The goal of this portal is to provide the best possible situational awareness on the status of HABs and HAB toxins in New England, while also facilitating easy access and comparison to historical data.
