{"id":305,"date":"2017-12-06T14:17:17","date_gmt":"2017-12-06T18:17:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.test.dev\/?page_id=305"},"modified":"2023-01-20T14:24:47","modified_gmt":"2023-01-20T18:24:47","slug":"instruments","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/site\/whoiplasmafacility\/instruments\/","title":{"rendered":"Instruments"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<h1>Instruments<\/h1>\r\n<p>The ThermoFisher <strong>Neptune<\/strong> is a large format, magnetic sector, multicollector ICP-MS best suited for high precision isotope ratio measurements.\u00a0 It is equipped with eight Faraday cups, eight continuous-dynode electron multipliers, (MIC &#8211; multiple ion counters) and a central SEM with RPQ for high abundance sensitivity.<\/p>\r\n<p>The ThermoFisher <strong>iCAP Qc<\/strong> is a quadrupole ICP-MS (installed in Nov. 2015).<\/p>\r\n<p>The <strong>Agilent 5900<\/strong> is an ICP-OES (installed in March 2022) that best suited to measure major and trace elements in a high total-dissolved solid (TDS) matrix. The synchronous dual view combines axial and radial optical beams to efficiently measure a wide range of elements. The advanced valve introduction system allows this ICP-ES to make measurements very rapidly.<\/p>\r\n<p>Solid Samples can be directly sampled and introduced into either the Neptune or the iCAP Qc using the <strong>Applied Spectra 193 nm eximer LASER <\/strong>ablation sampling device.\u00a0 This system is equipped with a large-format laser ablation cell. This cell can hold significantly more samples and standards than regular laser ablation cells.<\/p>\r\n<p>Aqueous solutions are sampled by a variety of nebulizers and spray chambers from <a title=\"ESI\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elementalscientific.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" name=\"ESI\"><\/a>Elemental Scientific Inc. Desolvation of aqueous solutions improves sensitivity and decreases oxide and hydride interferneces.
