{"id":238,"date":"2017-06-22T14:00:06","date_gmt":"2017-06-22T18:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/staff\/bpeucker\/?page_id=238"},"modified":"2017-07-11T14:57:55","modified_gmt":"2017-07-11T18:57:55","slug":"picotrace-clean-lab","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/staff\/bpeucker\/projects\/picotrace-clean-lab\/","title":{"rendered":"PicoTrace Clean Lab"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Mobile PicoTrace clean laboratory<\/h2>\n<p>In collaboration with PicoTrace GmbH, WHOI has built a trace metal clean mobile laboratory consisting of two container vans.\u00a0 One van houses support equipment (air handling unit, power, gas and water supplies) while the other van has been equipped by PicoTrace GmbH with a state-of-the-art metal-free clean room.\u00a0 The two units are located on the roof of the Clark Laboratory on the Quissett Campus in Woods Hole, but are designed as seagoing laboratories.\u00a0 This lab was designed and built to offer a contamination-free environment for those ultra-trace-element analyses that have been compromised by the fire in the ion microprobe (NENIMF) laboratory in October 2002.\u00a0 Pervasive soot-contamination of all our clean laboratories made extensive clean-up necessary and triggered the design and construction of this new clean lab.\u00a0 This state-of-the-art laboratory is the first clean laboratory of its kind built by PicoTrace GmbH in the USA and has been used by us since 2006 for the most demanding geochemical applications (e.g. stable rhenium isotope analyses).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_271\" style=\"width: 298px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-271\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/staff\/bpeucker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2017\/06\/p15a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"216\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-271\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wolfgang and Heiko assemble the lab at the WHOI dock (BPE 8\/23\/05)<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_272\" style=\"width: 299px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-272\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.whoi.edu\/staff\/bpeucker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2017\/06\/p15b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"289\" height=\"217\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-272\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A PicoTrace work bench is loaded into the clean lab.
