My current research interests include 1) how increasing fluxes of glacial meltwater affects phytoplankton growth in the subpolar North Atlantic and the Southern Ocean, 2) how changing Gulf Stream dynamics influences primary productivity on the U.S. northeast continental shelf and slope, and 3) the environmental and ecological constraints on blooms of coccolithophores, <em>Phaeocystis<\/em>, and diatoms. In 2019, I received my PhD in Marine Sciences from the University of Georgia and came to the WHOI Applied Ocean Physics &amp; Engineering department as a postdoctoral scholar, where I joined the scientific staff in 2021.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hilde Oliver (Scientist, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution) collects samples of sargassum from the side of the ship.
