Arctic sea ice and glacier ice

My postdoctoral scholar research is focused on two areas: 1) Greenland Ice Sheet and 2) Arctic Sea Ice with Drs. Sarah Das (G&G), Catherine Walker (AOP&E), and Chris German (G&G).

Greenland Ice Sheet

Shallow ice cores were previously collected from West Greenland by Sarah Das. We have an upcoming field campaign to Helheim Glacier April-May 2022 to collect a small transect of shallow cores.

I plan to collaborate with the Desert Research Institute to measure trace nutrients in melt layers to understand how melting redistributes nutrients.

Arctic Ice

I am currently in the process of acquiring sea ice cores from the Arctic Ocean. The cores will be sampled/prepared at WHOI and analyzed for trace nutrients, salts, and stable isotopes.

The goal is to understand nutrient flux and transport in sea ice with broader implications for habitat suitability on ocean worlds (e.g. Titan, Europa, Enceladus). This project is in collaboration with Kevin Hand at NASA JPL.
