Collaboration with artist Diane Burko

Diane Burko is a Philadelphia-based artist and explorer who works at the intersection of art and environment. She has created a large portfolio of climate change-related artwork, including topics such as ocean acidification and the melting of sea ice and glaciers. We have partnered with her to enable creation of a series of paintings related to our project theme, particularly the interconnectivity between the shelf and the open Arctic Ocean. When the paintings are complete they will be displayed at public exhibitions.

Undergraduate research experience

Undergraduate students will be involved in all aspects of the ARION project, including sample collection at sea, sample analysis on shore, data interpretation, and presentation of results.

If you are an undergraduate at Rowan University that would like to get involved in the ARION project, contact Dr. Lauren Kipp (kipp@rowan.edu).

Undergraduate students can also become involved in the project through the Woods Hole Partnership Education Program or the WHOI Summer Student Fellowship. Contact Dr. Matt Charette if you are interested in becoming involved through one of these WHOI-based programs (mcharette@whoi.edu).

PolarTREC partnership

PolarTREC teacher Jonathan Pazol joined the 2021 expedition and was a great addition to the radium sampling team. Jon wrote a series of journals while on board that can be found on the PolarTREC website here.

Collaboration with filmmaker Amy Lauren Richman

Amy Lauren joined us on board for the 2021 expedition and captured footage to create multiple types of films, ranging from 2D to virtual reality!

Check out her film on the Arctic halocline (in 2D or VR) here.
