The role of plastics in the global health of the ocean is unclear. Our research centers around the theme of using technology to drive our ability to robustly quantify and identify ocean plastics.
Development of Deep Ocean In situ Sensors
To bring the analytical laboratory to the sea floor, we develop sensors to measure carbon dioxide and methane in the deep ocean.
Oil
We have investigate the use of portable X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) for identification of oil sources.
Chemical Mapping
We developed the ChemYak, a chemical sensing platform based on the JetYak, an autonomous surface vehicle (ASV/kayak) that enables spatial analysis of surface waters.
