Farewell, Ichiko!
Today we say goodbye to Ichiko Sugiyama, who wraps up her time with the NIRVANA Lab. Ichiko joined us in late 2022 to study microbial metal demand in the Eastern Tropical Pacific, working jointly with Mak Saito and myself. She sailed on the AT50-10 CliOMZ expedition, where she conducted an impressive number of isotope tracer incubation experiments and produced some incredible data on metal uptake and dissolved trace metal distributions along the transect.
We’ll be sharing some of those results later in 2025—stay tuned!
Ichiko is now heading to Canada to begin a postdoc in the Department of Earth Sciences at Carleton University in Ottawa. While we’re sad to see her go, we’re excited to follow her next steps. Farewell and best of luck across the border, Ichiko!
