Tristan tenured!

I’m delighted to share that, earlier today, the President and Director, Peter de Menocal, notified me that my application for tenure at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has been granted.

This is a big personal milestone, and I want to take a moment to say how deeply grateful I am; for the guidance of my mentors, the efforts of my collaborators, and the hard work of the techs, postdocs, and students who have been part of the lab over the years. I’ve also benefited tremendously from the support of my family, who have—among other things—endured many tales of lab-work woe, mass spec strife, and proposal-writing wretchedness (including the artist behind this card, age 5).

Already nailing sentiment and layout

I don’t take this opportunity lightly. I plan to take stock, reflect a bit, and begin pursuing the kind of ambitious, long-term questions that only become possible with this level of institutional support. I’m excited to keep the momentum going, and it’s a real privilege to work alongside so many excellent people.

New adventures await!
