Mr. Farr leads the optical communications group at WHOI, which develops high bandwidth undersea communication capabilities and systems. His background is in electrical engineering with 16 years developing medical lasers and fiber optic medical devices, and 10 years in the underwater, free space communications field. He is an inventor of numerous medical devices and optical communications patents. He has led many successful project teams and continues to raise funding for these efforts. He is the founder of a new WHOI spin-out company, Lumasys, which develops and commercializes underwater communication systems for the oil and gas industry.
