All group members present at the AMS Annual Meeting in Houston, TX

On 26–30 January, everyone in the Tropical Climate Dynamics research group – Alex G., Fouzia, Chelone, and Alex K. presented their research at the 2026 AMS Annual Meeting in Houston, TX.

Alex G. orally presented results from his recently published paper on the double ITCZ bias entitled, “We need to simulate more northern ITCZs and less southern ITCZs over the east Pacific Ocean in coupled climate models.” He also co-chaired the session, “Tropical Atmospheric and Oceanic Dynamics I” along with Funing Li (MIT).

Fouzia Fahrin presented her Ph.D. research entitled, “Improving the Representation of the East Pacific ITCZ and Convectively Coupled Equatorial Waves in km-Scale Simulations using the Model for Prediction Across Scales-Atmosphere (MPAS-A).”

Chelone Laws presented her summer 2025 research entitled, “The Effect of Upper Ocean Freshwater on the Rapid Intensification of Hurricane Lee.”

Alex Kinsella orally presented his research conducted during the WFIP3 field campaign entitled, “Efficacy of the HRRRv4 Model in Simulating Winds, Surface Meteorology, Clouds, and Rain during a Coastal Low Pressure System.”
