Scalable Lateral Mixing and Coherent Turbulence DRI (LatMix)

LatMix DRI is short for an ONR Departmental Research Initiative called Scalable Lateral Mixing and Coherent Turbulence. It is a study of mixing and stirring in the upper ocean on scales of 100 meters to 10 km. Major field efforts occurred in June 2011 and in March 2012 in the region of the Gulf Stream off the coast of North Carolina. The participation of Jim Ledwell and Gene Terray, at WHOI, was supported by both the Office of Naval Research and the National Science Foundation. The concept and plans for the experiment are described in DRI Workshop Scalable Lateral Mixing and Coherent Mixing.
