Join My Lab

Prospective lab members

Students who join my lab will be mostly involved in computer based analyses of bioacoustic data from marine mammals, primarily dolphins, but some projects focus on other species such as pilot whales and blue whales. Very few field opportunities are available, so if you are looking to do field work, my lab is likely not a good match! But if you enjoy working with interesting sounds and potentially making exciting new findings, please read on!

Undergraduate students

I am interested in hosting students through our Summer Student Fellowship (SSF) and Guest Student programs. Please contact me if you are interested in one of these programs.

Graduate students

Prospective graduate students should apply to the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Biological Oceanography. Competitive students will have a GPA of 3.5 or higher with a major in biology or a closely related area. Competitive GREs are typically above the 75th percentile. I strongly advise all eligible students to apply for fellowship programs, such as the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. Opportunities are also available to graduate students enrolled at another university to carry out research at WHOI for periods of 2 weeks for 2 years through our Guest Student program.

Postdoctoral researchers

WHOI has an excellent and highly competitive Postdoctoral Scholar Program. Applications are due in October.
