Study phytoplankton in Woods Hole!
The lab has several active projects that are exploring harmful algal bloom species physiology and bloom dynamics throughout New England and around the globe. We use a combination of lab and field approaches and are especially interested in development and application of methods that investigate blooms in situ. If you’re interested in joining the lab, please contact mbrosnahan@whoi.edu.
Postdoctoral Researchers
WHOI offers a limited number of postdoctoral fellowships annually through its Postdoctoral Scholar program. Eligibility is restricted to new or recent doctorate recipients in the fields of chemistry, engineering, geology, geophysics, mathematics, meteorology, physics, and biology as well as oceanography. This is a competitive program with selection based primarily on assessment of individuals' research promise. Other postdoctoral opportunities may be available as well. Please email if interested in developing a project in the lab.
Graduate Students
Opportunities for graduate study at WHOI are available through the MIT-WHOI Joint Program, which offers doctoral degrees in diverse fields of marine science and ocean engineering. Students have access to world renowned faculty and resources from both WHOI and MIT and exceptional research opportunities that come with these. The program guarantees five years of tuition and stipend support for admitted students who make satisfactory progress toward their degree. Prospective students who are interested in joining the lab are strongly encouraged to email well in advance of the application deadline. Students should also explore and apply for fellowships to support their studies.
Undergraduate Students
We host undergraduate students through the WHOI Summer Student Fellowship (for rising seniors), the Woods Hole Partnership Education Program (for rising juniors and seniors), and students with support from their home institution.
There are also semester-long opportunities through the Semester at WHOI program (for juniors and seniors).
