Coring into the Mud

Sometimes we collect very long cores, so that we can get the longest record possible of a pond basin. Here is an example of a 10-meter (33 feet) aluminum tube going into the pond. This task will usually require two to four people to get the core in and out of the mud while collecting as much sediment as possible.
