Becoming a Marine Biologist
Last week I had the honor of participating in an Ocean Encounters event focused on careers in marine biology and related fields. The recording is available: https://www.whoi.edu/ocean-encounter/becoming-a-marine-biologist/. My co-panelists were Brandon Jones (AGU President-Elect) and Nate Formel (WHOI Research Assistant), and the event was hosted by Veronique LaCapra. We each talked a bit about our career paths and some of the lessons we’ve learned along the way. It was particularly fun to talk with some of the high school and college-aged students who were present in the live audience.
We each shared some career highlights but also described challenges that we have faced.
An interesting part of preparing for the event was digging up some pictures from earlier in my career. Here’s me as a postdoc, doing some fish dissections (I think).
