Opportunities for prospective students and postdocs

My lab is always open to new collaborators, interns, graduate students, and postdocs. Our work is very collaborative and interdisciplinary. What make us a group is our willingness to develop/use the best signal processing tools and to understand the acoustics to answer oceanographic questions. Our activities cover  :

  • fundamental signal processing
  • inverse theory and statistical inference
  • source localization, environmental estimation
  • soundscape analysis and acoustical oceanography using ambient noise
  • bioacoustics for marine mammals and crustacean
  • impact of noise on marine animals

I enjoy working with a diverse group of people. Our lab has hosted diverse people with background in electrical engineering, acoustics, and biology. Just have a look at the people section to embrace our diversity.

I am generally open to work on new topics, as long as they stay within my area of expertise.

For prospective graduate students

WHOI runs the WHOI/MIT Joint Program Graduate School. Admission is very competitive, and a great academic record helps a lot. Applying for scholarships and receiving funding before starting graduate school is also helpful. Please read up here and do not hesitate to contact me or the academics program coordinator.

Here are some websites with information on fellowships for graduate students:

NSF Predoctoral Fellowship

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowships

Science.gov list of fellowship opportunities

NC State's list of fellowships and opportunities

I may also help in securing a PhD position in another country/institution (notably in France where I have strong connections). You would then be able to come to WHOI as a guest student, and collaborate with our lab.

For prospective post-docs

WHOI provides amazing postdoctoral scholarship opportunities. If you are interested in postdoc-ing in my group, first step, check out the WHOI Postdoctoral Scholar program or contact me.

Another option is a fellowship from another institution. WHOI strongly supports postdoctoral candidates who come with an external fellowship.
