EM Induction Workshop 2024

This September, four of our lab members--Bailey, Christine, Jae, and Natalie--attended the 2024 Electromagnetic Induction Workshop in Beppu, Japan. Christine gave a review talk on marine electromagnetic geophysics detailing the global variability in the electromagnetic lithosphere and the application of controlled source methods to imaging lithology, pore fluid, and methane in the upper ~10 km of the subsurface.  Jae presented his research on machine learning solutions for inverting electromagnetic data. Bailey, Natalie, and Christine presented posters on the Vulcan, MT, and CSEM results from the Gofar transform fault, respectively.

The city of Beppu, in the Ōita Prefecture of Southern Japan, was an appropriate setting for an EM geophysics workshop, surrounded by hot springs and volcanoes. We enjoyed onsen, hikes in the mountains, and singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at karaoke with our global colleagues. A big thanks to everyone who organized the conference and to the staff who took and shared many of these photos.
