The Grapple maintains complete control of the massive coring system at all times
Grapple door operates to enable corehead capture during recovery. Before the corer reaches the surface, the grapple door is opened, then the boom is extended towards the Long core pennant. The door is closed around the pennant when the rope is roughly centered, and then the corehead is winched up into the Grapple. Three cams are pushed open as the corehead is lifted, close after the head passes completely, and then the head is lowered to rest on the cams.
