CC-CREW Summer 2022
We finished our 5th year of Community College (CC) Research Experiences in Woods Hole. New of this year was the addition of WHOI labs that hosted our CC students. In addition to the Huber lab, the Hansel lab, Ward lab (Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry Department) and Alexander lab, Tepolt lab (Biology Department) were host labs. We had six students from Cape Cod Community College, Massasoit Community College, Quinsigamond Community College, and Community College of Rhode Island.
This summer's program included a Microbiology Introductory Course, Journal Club, Attending Seminars and Workshops, My Path to Science Chats, Meetings with Alumni of the Program, and Field Trips.
The students presented their research at the Summer Student Poster Session at WHOI. The range of research topics included; Analysis of microbes from deep sea vents, Bacterial metabolism of vitamin B12, Biodegradation of sunlight treated oil, Genetic analysis of invasive green crabs, and The formation of manganese oxides by photochemical reactions.
We are starting to plan for the next round of CC-CREW. In addition to the summer version, we also have a semester internship program for CC students. Please get in touch with Julie Huber or me with questions.
