Kujawinski's research focuses on the interdependence of microbial metabolism and dissolved organic matter composition. We investigate the composition of dissolved organic matter with ultrahigh resolution mass spectrometry. We examine the metabolic function of microbial communities with respect to defined carbon substrates in both laboratory and field experiments. These two research efforts are combined with appropriate statistical tools for robust comparison and hypothesis development.
