VEX/GAGE 2002

Part 1: Guadeloupe - Barbados

Chief Scientist: Cecilie Mauritzen
This research cruise onboard the Research Vessel Knorr (cruise number 166, leg 7) took place from March 21, 2002 and April 14, 2002.  The work area is shown in the chart right.  The research objectives of the cruise were to collect hydrographic data. This part of the cruise consisted of 115 full depth CTD profiles with sampling for salinity, dissolved oxygen, and nutrient tracers.

Part 2: Barbados - Guadeloupe

Chief Scientist: Michael McCartney
This research cruise onboard the Research Vessel Knorr (cruise number 166, leg 8) took place from April 17, 2002 and May 2, 2002.  The work area is shown in the charts to the right, with the lower chart an expanded view of the Vema Fracture Zone (boxed section in the top chart). The research objectives of the cruise were recover moorings and collect hydrographic data. This part of the cruise consisted of 30 full depth CTD profiles with sampling for salinity and dissolved oxygen. The CTD stations are presented as red circles, moorings which were recovered sucessfully as red stars, and moorings with release problems as gray stars. The moorings which weren't recovered during Spring of 2002 will be recovered during Spring 2003.

VEX 2002 Data

The following are section plots of the data collected during the VEX cruise from March 21 to May 1, 2002. Full depth CTD casts were collected at 92 stations across the mooring array in the Vema Fracture Zone as shown in the figure below. Sections were created using Ocean Data View.
