Mission of the National Ocean Sciences AMS Facility
The three-pronged mission of NOSAMS is to make high quality radiocarbon measurements accessible to the ocean and earth sciences community, to continuously improve and develop new measurement capabilities, and to serve as an educational and outreach resource. The laboratory is open to visitors who regularly receive training and support for preparing samples for radiocarbon analysis and the staff provides support to investigators on how best to utilize the most advanced techniques in radiocarbon analysis to address a diverse range of research questions. With support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), NOSAMS strives to generate high accuracy, high precision 14C data in a timely manner for seawater, groundwater, organic carbon, carbonates, sediments, individual compounds, and other materials.
