NOSAMS Seawater 14C-DIC Inter-laboratory Comparison
NOSAMS is organizing an inter-laboratory comparison for seawater 14C-DIC. The exercise will include surface and deep (2200 m) seawater collected from Station ALOHA located in the North Pacific subtropical gyre.
To participate, please fill out and submit this form. Information marked with an asterisk (*) is required.
The deadline for registration is November 1, 2025. We anticipate samples will be shipped out in January 2026. For further information or inquiries please email NOSAMS.
Sample and shipment details
We anticipate sending triplicate bottles of both surface and deep seawater samples. If resources allow, we will include 1-2 bottles of 14C-free groundwater collected from Fort Caswell (NC, USA). All samples are poisoned with mercuric chloride and sealed in 500-ml glass bottles. Bottles will be packaged securely for shipping in a plastic crate of dimensions 27.2 in (L) x 17.2 in (W) x 12.5 in (H) (69 x 44 x 32 cm).
NOSAMS will make its best possible effort to provide adequate documentation of the samples, but it is the responsibility of the recipient of the 14C-DIC inter-comparison samples to arrange for necessary clearances, fees, and taxes. If you have concerns in this regard, please contact NOSAMS.
