New GO-SHIP samples arrived from tropical North Pacific  

A new batch of seawater samples has arrived at NOSAMS from the recently completed Global Ocean Ship-based Hydrographic Investigations Program (GO-SHIP) expedition along the P04E transect in the tropical North Pacific.

NOSAMS was founded in part to spearhead the analysis of Δ14C dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) from repeat hydrography cruises. The data, archived in the publicly accessible CLIVAR and Carbon Hydrographic Data Office database (CCHDO) have become an invaluable resource for tracking circulation, ventilation, and changes in the global carbon cycle over time.

The P04E line was last occupied in 1989. Revisiting this transect more than three decades later provides an opportunity to compare radiocarbon distributions across a full generation of ocean change, offering new insights into how the tropical North Pacific has evolved since the late 20th century.

We look forward to adding these new measurements to the long-term GO-SHIP record and continuing to support the global oceanographic community with high quality radiocarbon data.
