EMBARK CyberTraining project for skills to use data from major facilities and data repositories in the ocean sciences
I am thrilled to announce a new NSF-funded project starting in January 2026:
Collaborative Research: CyberTraining: Implementation: Small:
EMBARK: Developing essential skills to (re)use an ocean of data
I look forward to collaborating with Sage Lichtenwalner at Rutgers and Liz Hetherington at UCSD to develop and deliver a short-format, virtual training course with/for Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs). Our open-access course materials will provide practical, hands-on training to promote flexibility in adopting cyberinfrastructure (CI) tools and resources provided by major facilities and data repositories in the ocean sciences.
I also look forward to working with the ECOP Deep Ocean Task Team, the U.S. ECOP Node, our Advisory Board (including CI and data professionals from the NSF Ocean Observatories Initiative, BCO-DMO, Environmental Data Initiative, and Rutgers Master’s of Operational Oceanography program), our external evaluator Dr. Troy Sadler, and others involved.
If you’re interested in becoming more proficient with workflows for accessing and reusing ocean data (including time series, model data, satellite data products, and imagery) – this training will be for you!
If you are a U.S.-based Early Career Ocean Professional who may be interested in our live, virtual course to be offered in 2026 – 2027, feel free to fill out a short interest form [here].
