New CyberTraining project for skills to use data from major facilities and data repositories in the ocean sciences

I am thrilled to announce a new NSF-funded project starting in January 2026:
Collaborative Research: CyberTraining: Implementation: Small:
EMBARK: Developing essential skills to (re)use an ocean of data

I look forward to collaborating with Sage Lichtenwalner at Rutgers and Liz Hetherington at UCSD to develop and deliver a short-format, virtual training course with/for early career ocean professionals (ECOPs). Our open-access course materials will provide practical, hands-on training to promote flexibility in adopting cyberinfrastructure (CI) tools and resources provided by major facilities and data repositories in the ocean sciences.

I also look forward to working with the ECOP Deep Ocean Task Team, the U.S. ECOP Node, our Advisory Board (including CI and data professionals from OOI, BCO-DMO, and EDI), our external evaluator Dr. Troy Sadler, and others involved.

If you’re interested in becoming more proficient with workflows for accessing and reusing oceanographic time series, satellite data, model data, and imagery classified by machine learning – this training will be for you!
Stay tuned for more information…
