IRMINGER: The OOI-CGSN team deployed Flanking Mooring A in the OOI Irminger Sea Array off the tip of Greenland. The Flanking Moorings consist of a top floatation sphere which sits at 30 m water depth. Instrumentation is mounted in the sphere and along the mooring line below it. At 500 m depth is another mid-water sphere which holds an ADCP instrument to measure water velocity. At the bottom of the mooring are a number of glass balls. All of these buoyancy components help us to recover the mooring at the end of the deployment.
