Flanking Mooring B Next

IRMINGER: The second Flanking Mooring was deployed at the OOI Irminger Sea Array; the last of the 4 new OOI moorings to be deployed. Flanking Mooring B is just like Flanking Mooring A deployed the day before.  The top sphere can be seen trailing behind the ship during the deployment.  Other components such as the mid-water release float, glass spheres and CTD instruments sit on the deck awaiting deployment.  The most important component of the mooring is the acoustic release.  When it is time to recover the mooring, an acoustic signal is sent from the ship to the release just above the anchor.  It separates the anchor from the rest of the mooring, and the glass balls help to bring the mooring to the surface for recovery.
