Leg 2 Complete: Oregon Inshore Recovery and Return to Newport

The R/V Sally Ride has completed its transit south to Oregon as part of the Spring 2025 Coastal Endurance Turn Cruise (SR2511).

Before heading into port, the team successfully recovered the Oregon Inshore Low Power Surface Mooring (CE01ISSM-00021)—retrieving valuable ocean data from the past deployment cycle.

With recovery complete, the ship docked in Newport, marking the end of offshore operations for this leg of the cruise.

A view from behind the Oregon Shelf Surface Mooring on the pier shows the redesigned wind turbine mount on the right and the older-style mount on the left. The new mount features additional bracing, vibration dampening, and routes the cable through the mount tubing for improved durability and performance.

The Oregon Inshore Surface Mooring buoy during recovery, showing significant biofouling from an extended deployment period. The buoy’s batteries were nearly fully depleted at the time of recovery. An inverted Multi-Function Node (MFN) is visible in the background.
