Recovery Complete at Washington Shelf and Inshore Sites

The Fall 2025 Coastal Endurance Array Recovery Cruise (SR2520) achieved another major milestone with the successful recovery of the Washington Shelf Mooring (CE07SHSM-00020) and the Washington Inshore Mooring (CE06ISSM-00021), along with both anchors. With both sites recovered, the science team began transit south toward Newport.

Highlights

• Completed pre-recovery CTD casts for CE07SHSM and CE06ISSM.
• Recovered CE07SHSM-00020 buoy, NSIF, MFN, riser components, and anchor.
• Recovered CE06ISSM-00021 buoy, NSIF, MFN, and anchor.
• Conducted post-recovery assessment of instruments on deck.
• Cleared and secured deck to prepare for return transit to Newport.

Conditions

• Washington Shelf (Thursday): North-northwest winds 16–18 kt, sunny skies, seas 8–9 ft.
• Newport (Friday): Northerly winds 8–12 kt, sunny, mixed swell (WNW 6–7 ft at 9 seconds, SW 1 ft at 14 seconds), wind waves around 2 ft.

With the Washington Shelf and Inshore moorings safely recovered, the team has wrapped up offshore recovery operations and is now heading back toward Newport.
