2023 Expedition

2023 marks the 21st year of BGOS & JOIS expeditions to the Beaufort Gyre onboard the CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent. Paul Macoun and Sarah Zimmermann (IOS) are co Chief Scientists on the expedition. The BGOS team on board includes Jeff O'Brien, Jim Ryder, Eric Hutt and Tim McDonough (WHOI), Cory Beatty (U. Montana), and Mary-Louise Timmermans (Yale). We are recovering and redeploying the three Beaufort Gyre Observing System moorings, and deploying 3 Ice-Tethered Profilers and 4 Tethered Ocean Profilers, along with 2 seasonal Ice Mass Balance Buoys and 1 Arctic Ocean Flux Buoy. IOS and collaborators are acquiring hydrographic and geochemical data at repeat stations spanning the region.
