Turbulent Heat Fluxes

Turbulent fluxes (Parkinson and Washington, 1979) are defined with the sign convention that an upward directed flux is a positive quantity.

Sensible

The sensible heat flux associated with the temperature difference between the air and underlying ocean surface is sensible heat flux.

The sensible heat flux associated with the temperature difference between the air and underlying ice/snow surface is ice/snow surface .

Latent

The latent heat flux associated with evaporation over the ocean surface is .

The latent heat flux associated with sublimation over the ice/snow surface is Latent Ice.
