Workshop #6, May 8-9, 2003

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, Massachusetts

Introduction

The Sixth AOMIP Workshop (May 8-9) in Woods Hole is being timed to precede the AMS Seventh Conference on Polar Meteorology and Oceanography (May 12-16) in nearby Hyannis. During the weekend between the AOMIP workshop and the AMS meeting, a Short Course on Data Assimilation for Sea-Ice Modelers (May 10-11) will be given at WHOI.

Framework Topics

During Day 1 of the workshop we plan to discuss results from the model Coordinated Spin-Up 1948-1978 runs and during Day 2 we will discuss conditions of the model Coordinated Analysis 1979-2003 runs, future plans, strategy, and tactics. We will have AOMIP participants' spin-up analysis results given in the form of 15-20 minute presentations including:

  1. general model results for spin-up;
  2. specific model intercomparison analysis focusing on your theme of interests;
  3. comparison with observations in 1978;
  4. conclusions, and recommendations for model and forcing improvement.
